Anita Kangas is the Director of the Unit for Cultural Policy/Politics Research at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, where since 2000 she directs the M.A. Degree Programme in Cultural Policy. She is also the Director of the Multidisciplinary PhD School for Cultural Policy Research. Previously, in 1991-1999, she was responsible of the Programme of Cultural Management. Her professorship of Cultural Policy was established in 1995. Between 1992 and 1997, she was appointed Vice-chair of the Arts Council of Finland. Among other commitments, since 2002, Dr. Kangas serves as Chair of the Advisory Board of Finland’s Foundation for Cultural Policy Research and has recently chaired the 6th International Conference on Cultural Policy Research (2010). She has been active nationally and internationally in teaching development, designing and managing many research projects, acting as an academic expert, and working as a member of editorial boards and boards of networks. She has published widely on cultural policy and cultural politics, cultural theory and action-research methodology, local and regional cultural policy.
