Background

In December 2010, the consortium set up by  the Interarts Foundation and Culture Action Europe obtained the contract for the coordination of the European Expert Network on Culture (EENC). The contract results from a call launched by the Directorate-General for Education and Culture (DG EAC) of the European Commission in July 2010. It was renewed for a further two years in April 2013. The EENC involves a group of 17 experts and also includes the participation of the Institute for Development and International Relations in Zagreb (IRMO). The EENC contributes to the improvement of policy development in culture in Europe, through the provision of advice and support to the European Commission in the analysis of cultural policies and their implications at national, regional and European levels. Rather than carry out primary research, the EENC provides expert advice to policymakers by synthesising current research and relevant issues in a way which is useful for policy development. Among the tasks that the EENC has been entrusted to perform is the launch and management of a website, which should provide comprehensive information both on the EENC’s own activities and on other developments relevant to the fields in which the network operates.
